Raped by boyfriend
18 year old female
When I was 17 years old I was raped by my boyfriend twice. Both times I said no and he continued to follow his actions through. I was in very bad shape - wouldn't eat or drink. I couldn't even face my 4 brothers.
I was so upset - life just wasn't worth living anymore. I was doing my VCE when it happened and the second time it happened, I was doing Year 12 - the most important time of my life, and I failed bad at it because the rape took over my life.
I refused to go to school because I felt that I wasn't capable of going because he was going to get me and try to do it again which scared the crap out of me. I refused to leave my room because that's where it was safe.
No one could understand what I was going through and I got made fun of all the time and I lost all my friends. I had no one to talk to or even just to tell me everything was going to be okay. But thank god I had my mum. She was the rock through it all and still is.
It took over my life and I couldn't deal with it anymore. I tried to kill myself many times, I even ended up in hospital because of the injuries I had. But that never fixed anything. The pain and suffering was always going to be there. I had to fix what was going on but I couldn't do it by myself.
Crying and punching things weren't going to help either until my mum told me I needed to talk to someone so she told me to call the Kids Helpline. I was on the phone to a lovely lady for 2 hours. She really helped me though it.
I went and saw someone about it and she told me to go to the police and charge him so that's what I did. The following day I returned back to school and all the teachers knew what was happening and they were really good about it. If i needed time to myself or felt it was too hard to be at school that I could leave and go home.
But I did my best but only lasted 3 hours at school. I had to go to court and lost but I still believe it was the right thing to do. I feel a lot better and I hope I can help someone that has been through the same thing.
