Planning for the future

13 year old female

planning for the futureWhen I first contacted Kids Helpline, it was about self harm. I had been self harming for quite a while, and had recently stopped, but I knew I would need counselling if I wasn't going to go back to it.

Although at first I was very nervous, I soon found that my counsellor was very nice and really respected and understood what I was feeling, even though I thought no one ever would. My counsellor and I worked to find good techniques to deal with the large amount of anger and hurt that was the result of past abuse.

Kids Helpline is helping me to be able to start recovering from my past and plan for and look forward to my future. I am now able to confidently make my own decisions without having bad influences dictate my life and how I feel.

Something I learned is: it is really worth telling someone close to you who you trust, preferably an adult, what you are going through. That way you can talk with them if you can't ring Kids Helpline, and they can help you. It helped me a lot to do this. If you are hurting, or need to talk with someone, I highly recommend that you try contacting Kids Helpline - they helped me so much.

Thank you so much to all the staff and counsellors at Kids Helpline for helping me and so many other young people to make positive steps in their lives.
