Was diagnosed with OCD
13 year old female
Ever since I was in Grade 4 I knew I was different. At first I thought I was just a bit of a perfectionist because I spent hours on end doing homework, projects, exams, assignments etc. just so that I would get it right.
But soon in grade six I realised that if I didn't do something 100% correct I would have an anxiety attack or suffer depression. I hid these feelings from my huge family of eight though.
I hated school camps, big exams and odd numbers or things that just weren't in place. My mother started to notice a difference in my personality and took me to a psychologist (I think that's how you spell it) who was super friendly.
Last year I was diagnosed with OCD and occasional anxiety attacks. Every week I look at Kids Helpline. Even though I have never built up the courage to ring, email or chat to one of the counsellors, I decided to tell my story after months of reading others stories.
