Self-esteem


If you have healthy self-esteem you most likely:

  • feel confident, energetic and hopeful
  • believe in yourself
  • feel comfortable around other people
  • enjoy group things as well as doing things by yourself
  • know what you are good at and what you are not so good at and are fine with both
  • look for a solution rather than giving up when something goes wrong
  • don't say bad things about yourself when something goes wrong, e.g. you might say 'I don't understand' rather than 'I'm stupid!'

If you have unhealthy self-esteem you most likely:

  • feel unhappy a lot of the time
  • feel like you aren't as good as other people
  • don't have much confidence
  • put yourself down, even when someone gives you a compliment
  • give up easily when you are trying new things
  • are easily disappointed in yourself
  • don't look for solutions when things go wrong
  • say bad things about yourself, for example, 'I'm stupid' or 'I'm dumb'
