What's it like to live in a foster family?
Sometimes kids move around between foster homes and sometimes they stay in the same foster care placement until their own family is able to look after them again. It's very difficult for a kid to leave their family and move in with another family, even if there is a lot of problems and unhappiness at home.
Kids in foster care often have lots of different feelings to deal with. They might:
- feel happy and safe in their new home but also sad and worried about their mum and dad
- feel afraid and confused about what will happen next
- have mixed feelings about their parents who weren't able to give them what they needed. They might miss them one minute and then feel angry about what happened the next
All these mixed up feelings can cause kids in foster care a lot of stress.
