Being Strong
A strong mind
Things don't always go smoothly. There will be times when things are tough or don't go the way you would like them to. At such times, if you can be strong in your mind, you will look for solutions rather than just feeling sorry for yourself or blaming someone else. It can be useful to ask yourself 'What can I do to feel better?' or 'What can I learn from this?'
Some of the ways you can help yourself become stronger in your mind are:
- Understand your feelings
Try to understand what you are feeling - are they comfortable or uncomfortable feelings? Then try talking about these feelings to someone you trust. This will help you better understand your feelings and they will be less likely to sneak up on you - Find something you enjoy and can do well
What sorts of things do you enjoy doing? You might like to play chess, soccer, do some sewing - or anything! It doesn't matter what it is - what's important is that you feel good doing it, because feeling good about yourself helps you to be strong - Join in!
Feeling part of something is another way of helping yourself to be strong. Examples of ways to join in are:- spending time with people who enjoy spending time with you
- playing a sport
- joining a group like scouts or brownies
- helping out a neighbour or friend
